Quick Early Season Containers

Sometimes the answer to a problem is hanging right in front of your eyes....

Ever need a drop-dead-gorgeous container planting for an event early in the season? Every area has its maxims about when it's ok to put annuals out--and most nurseries and garden centers have a limited selection of unfinished material until just prior to that magical date. Putting a container together with this stock will yield a wonderful display in time...but it'll be a bit bare for your early season garden parties.

Here's an easy solution to this dilemma:

Most nurseries/garden centers prepare beautiful hanging baskets for the Mother's Day rush. While pot grown annuals are just getting going, the baskets are planted ahead and forced indoors to be in full growth and vibrant flower early in the growing season. This puts them well ahead of the potted material.

For a smashing container, simply choose the arrangement of your choice in a hanging basket, pop off the hanger and tip the entire orchestration out of its pot. Because they are already mature, the rootballs of the individual components will have knit together in a unified whole.

Drop the entire ensemble in your decorative container, top off any empty space with a good potting medium and water in. No fuss, no muss, and you've got a wonderful early season display without having to wait for things to fill in.

Enjoy!
